Alcatraz! And Minnesota Company :)

My parents brought my 17 year old nephew, Micah, out with them this spring. Despite the 7 days of rainy weather (ok, we had 1 or 2 days of clouds only) we packed in a lot of fun!

The very first day after their arrival we headed into The City to tour Alcatraz. None of us had ever been out there before so it was a brand new experience for us all. It was cold and off and on rainy, but it was still a fascinating tour. We even got to meet a former inmate from Alcatraz, Bill Baker. It was a bit surreal walking through the place of so much history and legend. I kept flashing back to scenes from the movie The Rock. The audio tour was very interesting and made the place come to life with a bit of a haunted feeling. One almost recognized feeling sorry for the inmates before remembering they weren't there without reason and most made it out alive. We were there for the "slamming of the doors" presentation where they opened and closed all the cell doors at once. That is a sound I will never forget.
