Even though it's been hot, hot, HOT here this past week, Justin and I have still ventured outdoors for some nature walks. It was fun to see the seasonal changes at the river even since the last time we were there a couple weeks ago.

Justin has also become fascinated with ancient history. We are currently learning about the ancient Egyptians and the Nile delta. We made a little model of our own Nile delta (below) and pretended we were Egyptian farmers who waited until the Nile flooded each year before planting their crops in the rich soil left from the river silt.

We have also read all about the pyramids, mummies, and pharaohs. I found a hieroglyph stencil at his school's library, and Justin had fun tracing the different symbols. We even made our own version of papyrus and practiced "carving" hieroglyphs in clay.
