Hiking and Fishing

Today we headed up to a lake an hour away from us towards the mountains. We fished in the morning and Justin caught a Rainbow Trout! He was very excited, and we kept it since it had swallowed the hook and wouldn't have survived. There was another family fishing near us and they had a boy who was probably 8 years old or so. He was very impressed with Justin's fish. He walked by us later and pointed to Justin, telling his siblings that "There's the kid who caught that big fish!" (it wasn't really very big) Then he turned to Justin and said, "Good job, kid!"

After fishing, we had a picnic lunch and then went for a hike the ranger at the Ranger's Station had told us about. It was a little warm, but it was a beautiful hike. We were the only ones on the trail and were surrounded by pine trees. At one point I took a deep breath and said, "Mmmmm! I love the smell of pine trees!" Justin was walking ahead of me and took his own deep breath and said, "Mmmmm! Pineapples!"

Koty was a pretty wimpy hiker today. He was very hot and he kept trotting ahead of us (read: shoving past us whether there was room on the trail or not) and then stopping dead center in the middle of the trail as soon as it was shady. So we were constantly being shoved aside by Koty and then having to shove past him as he stood in the shade until we were all past and he trotted forwards again until the next shady spot!

After the hot hike we cooled down with frozen yogurt (for me and Dave) and fruit for Justin (no corn-free sorbet unfortunately, but Justin didn't care).

When we got home Dave and Justin cleaned the trout and grilled it for dinner. Yum!
