Train Ride

We went to Old Sacramento to ride the train and visit the train museum on Saturday. Justin was very excited. We signed Justin up for the Caboose Club which lets him ride free with an adult all year long, and he gets in to the museum free with an adult too. It was a 6 mile ride along the river and back. At the 3 mile mark the engine was detached and drove backwards along a track beside us to get turned around and attached to the back of the train to pull us back. We walked up to the open air car to get a better view of the transfer. Unfortunately, someone snatched our seats in the meantime so we had to stand up in the open air car on the return trip. It was still fun though. We got to hear the train whistle better (which Justin really liked).

We then went on to the museum. We weren't sure of how much Justin would enjoy it, but we ended up being there for almost 2 hours (so long we completely forgot about our parking meter and ended up with a ticket!) The museum is made from the former roundhouse and had many full size train engines and cars, including a sleeper and dining car we could walk through. It really opened our eyes to what train travel was like in the days before cars. It also gave me a much greater appreciation of what Grandpa C. loves about trains.

The last time we were here the caboose was locked up,
so it was fun to get to walk through it this time.
