The Black Hills

We toured the Prairie Homestead (a dirt house cut out of the hillside from the late 1800s), went through the Badlands National Park, and stayed in Custer, South Dakota in the heart of the Black Hills. We rode the 1880s train, the kids visited Mt. Rushmore with my parents, and we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. We tried to get pictures with all the buffalo statues lining the streets of Custer but we ran out of time!

Look at those homesteaders!

Nana got the calliope to play!

The chicken coop

It would have been a very hot, dry, and dusty life

The Badlands. Every time I go it feels like I'm on an alien planet.

Dad and Justin climbed up a peak.

Justin and Elissa scrambled to the top.

Afterwards we had to stop at Wall Drugstore and have ice cream!

And of course a swing for Abby!

We all enjoyed the Black Hills but we were excited to get to Yellowstone!
